REPRODUCTION
Cornerstone Graphics and the Giclee Process If you are thinking of having a print made of your original work we hope this article helps clear up the differences in these two processes. These two methods are not to be confused with other traditional methods of making original works of art through the direct manipulation of the printable surface. "Giclee prints are continuing to be a major force in the world of art reproductions and one of the best ways to publish your art!

The Benefits of Giclees:

Printmaking Quality Giclee printmaking is more precise than that of the best traditional printmaking methods. Having a higher apparent resolution than lithography combined with the dynamic color range we can in most cases match your original.

Print on Demand!! Working Capital this means you can set a number for your limited edition and only do the prints as you need them. There is no reason to continue printing the edition until you sell them. No inventory! No large outlay of money. Lower start up cost, as compared to traditional methods, to start your edition. You no longer need to tie up capital to print the whole edition. Your inventories are lower therefore costs associated with storage and overhead etc. are reduced.

Flexibility with many editions The Giclee process allows you to introduce more editions into the market at the same time. It allows you to produce an edition on paper at one size and the same image on canvas at a larger size. It allows you to test the market and see which images are more salable then others.

Hand Embellish Options for Artists Make further enhancements to your prints to meet a particular market demand. You can add your own personal touches or enhancements to a particular area of the print. Example: add color to an object, or personalize a print to a particular client's request.

Why Giclee Giclee prints are widely accepted by museums and galleries all over the world. They have become increasingly popular among many professional artists and photographers alike. Why should you do limited edition prints of your work? If you are selling only originals, whatever the selling price, that is the proceeds you are receiving for your work, but if you are doing reproductions you are adding value to your work. The more people are exposed to your work the more valuable your images become. This means the originals command a higher price.

Not every person will be able to afford the cost of an original painting, but that is no reason they should not enjoy your image, so reproductions are done. Some of our customers publish a lithograph edition of say 450 prints at one size i.e.. 19' x 25' and sell these for about $250.00 ea. At the same time they will offer a Giclee print on canvas at a larger size of say 50% increase to i.e. 28' x 40' and sell it for $950.00 each, with the edition size being only 50.

Do the math and see why some of these artists are very successful, after paying production and selling costs.

I want to reinforce one of the benefits of the Giclee process and that is print on demand, very small inventory required.
